Q. If i have an accident, who determines if it was my fault?

A. Certainly not the Car Hire Company. In the event of an accident, no matter how minor, you are advised to call the Police to settle any disputes regarding the cause. Guardia Civil 062 or Policia Local 092.

The blue backed form entitled "Parte Europeo de Accidente" is carried in the glove compartment of each vehicle, with an accompanying english translation. Both parties must complete this format at the scene of the accident, including section 12 entitled "circumstances" this assists the insurance company Assessors to determine the blame in the event of non-intervention by the authorities.

Q. If it is determined that my driving caused the accident, when will the 1st excess fee be claimed from my Credit Card ?

A. 1st excess deductions will not be recovered without prior consultation to you, the Client. It is not our policy to create any kind of financial hardship due to unforeseen circumstances.

Q. Why is there a 1st excess charge?

A. This is the sum that we are charged by the insurance company to ensure that the vehicle is fully insured up to it's total loss value. Therefore, providing you, the Client, with a high degree of protection.

Q. I assumed i was fully covered, my agent did not tell me i had an accident liability!

A. You are contracting direct with the Car Hire Company, and as such are subject to our terms and conditions of hire. All agencies are informed of these prior to acceptance of business and should inform clients of all liability.

Q. Does my credit card or holiday insurance cover me for the 1st excess?

A. The Only way to be sure of the extent of your insurance coverage is to check with your Credit Card Company or holiday insurance agent.

Q. What happens if my car is damaged when i am not present, say, in a Restaurant or Supermarket parking?

A. Careful parking normally ensures this kind of accident doesn't happen. But, all incidents, no matter how minor, must be reported to the Car Hire Company within 12 hours of occurrence. The form "Parte Europeo de Accidente" carried in the glove compartment of your vehicle must be completed with as much information as possible, including a sketch indicating the position parked and area of damaged sustained. Submission of a short written report is also required. Areas of restricted or No Parking zones should be highlighted, as should street names. You are technically responsible for the safety and security of the vehicle for the duration of your hire, but we do accept that this type of incident does occasionally happens and as a consequence is normally viewed sympathetically.

Q. If I purchase C.D.W. am I completely covered?

A. As with all insurance, there are exclusions. We cannot cover damage to wheel's and tyres Interior fittings caused by neglect. Damaged caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs negates all insurance cover and if proven by the authorities could render the hirer liable for the total cost of the repair.

Q. I paid in full in the U. K.

A. You may have paid for your car rental but C.D.W. is not included in any advance payment. It can only be purchased at the point of hire and cannot be purchased from any rental agent.
